Fish Creek's Sunset Beach Park | A Door County Family Vacation

Door County is the perfect place for an extended family vacation, and I love Sunset Beach Park because there’s a lot of scenic variety in a very small spot. Contrary to its namesake, I actually prefer photographing at Sunset Beach Park in the morning than the evening (as long as you can find parking during White Gull’s breakfast hours).

We start every extended family session with full-group shots, and I could tell that one of the small girls didn’t fully understand what was going on. As you can imagine, the idea of a photoshoot is really confusing if you’ve never been part of one before! I crouched down and ask what her favorite funny words was. She was a little shy, but her dad said “coyote.”

“Coyote,” I said, “that’s pretty funny! When I count to three, I want you to say ‘coyote,’ ok? One, two, three!”

“COYOTE,” she said, and she did great every photograph after that :)

You could make a strong case that this was my easiest and most cooperative session of the year, and we got all the shots we wanted and wrapped up 15 minutes ahead of schedule. I’ll tell you what, I really appreciated it because with three shoots and two client consultations, what’s normally a quiet Monday turned out to be one of the busiest days of the year!
