Door County's Crossroads at Big Creek | Mini Winter Session for a Friend
It’s the holidays again, and this year I wanted to gift my friends photography sessions. I blocked off 3 hours on a Saturday between Christmas and New Years, made a Facebook event, and got planning. Although many of my friends were out of town with their own families, 11 were able to make it to Door County’s Crossroads at Big Creek for mini sessions!
Most of my friends brought their significant others, so you can see their sessions in the Recent Engagement Session tab by clicking here. Linzee on the other hand brought her husband Drew and baby Lauryn, so her session is here :)
When you work with infants, you’re on their time and are done when they’re done. Consequently, the best images come from doing what they enjoy! We started by giving Lauryn a few lifts in the air to make her as giggly as possible.
We took a short walk together, and Lauryn got some snuggle time with her elephant Cheddar. She then found a boulder she wanted to climb, so the rest of her family joined for some expressive tight shots! As a photographer, I love working as close as possible because the photographs bring you right back into the moment; you can feel the energy and excitement.
We found a bench for a traditional family portrait and played in the snow. For it only being 20 degrees F, Lauryn did a fantastic job being out in the cold!
Although our session was only half an hour, we even had time for a few parent-only photos before wrapping up. On our way out, Linzee told me that their session was different than anything they’ve had in the past. She said that all of their other photographers just told them to smile for the camera, and she really appreciated how we created experiences and focused on her family’s personality. I wouldn’t have it any other way :)
