Door County's Crossroads at Big Creek | Three Generations Fall Family Session
Dianne brings her whole family on a Door County vacation each year, and she wanted to commemorate 2018 with a photography session; what a great idea! Dianne is married to Mark, and they have an adult daughter named Ali. Ali is married to Jacob, and together they have two children Myra and Mackston.
After bouncing a few ideas around, we decided to work at Door County’s Crossroads at Big because of its vast location variety in short walking distance as well as its public indoor facility. Convenience is key when you have an infant!
We started with a few images of Ali’s family while Mackston got used to his new environment. Myra on the other hand loved the camera and was immediately ready to go!
Once everyone was feeling comfortable, I grabbed my favorite vintage wooden chair and we had fun with formal shots.
We hit the woods for a wide environmental family portrait. I love this trail because it feels so surreal when you look up into the tall, slender canopy. It’s almost dizzying! Myra wanted to play a quick game of tag, and she gave Dianne a big hug for playing too!
I call this next type of spot a trail tunnel because there’s a stretch of dense brush that gets rather dark. By positioning Dianne’s family at the mouth of the tunnel facing outwards, we get very flattering light with dramatic subject isolation. In other words, it looks good :)
We got a few candid shots along the way…
… and we finished with a few girls-only portraits on a log bench :)
Thank you for a wonderful session, and I look forward to seeing you next year!!!
